Washington Elementary has been designated as a National Blue Ribbon School for 2017!

Greetings,

I am humbled to announce that Washington Elementary has been designated as a National Blue Ribbon School for 2017 by the U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos. Schools recognized as National Blue Ribbon Schools are “exemplary high performing schools.” The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle and high schools where students achieve very high learning standards or are making notable improvements in closing achievement gaps. The award affirms the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging content.

Washington Elementary is one of 342 schools nation-wide, and one of 8 schools in the state of Minnesota, that will be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in a ceremony on Nov. 6th and 7th  in Washington, D.C.

None of this would be possible without exceptional students, highly talented staff, and wonderfully engaged families at Washington Elementary. Congratulations to Principal Chad Schroeder and our entire Washington Elementary community. I look forward to celebrating with our students and staff very soon!

We want to see you at BooFest 2017

It's that time of year again, time for BooFest! Bring your family to celebrate the Fall season and grab a bite while you're there. To volunteer or purchase tickets for the event ahead of time, head over to

BooFest 2017

The Rochester Public School Foundation (RPSF) is announcing the 3rd Annual Boo Fest Carnival and Educational Enrichment Experience.   The Carnival, at Century High School on Saturday, October 28, 2017, will last from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm.  This year’s event, geared at preschool thru middle school students, will offer a fun, educational and unique opportunity for families in Rochester and the surrounding communities.  All proceeds will support additional Rochester Public School programs.  "Boo Fest is our only fundraising event," says long-time Board Member and School Administrator Scott Mahle, adding, "The support we receive through this event provides valuable funding that allows us to enrich the student experience, award grants to classroom teachers, and present college scholarships to a number of graduating seniors."

This year, Boo Fest will have a new section, titled “Scary Schoolhouse” which provides and emphasis on fun and educational topics.  There are 9 courses available including: Survive the Sea (Buoyancy), Build a Body (Anatomy), The Scream Cream (Freezing Point), Dracula’s Dream (Blood Biology), The Magicians Workshop (Chemical Change), The Golden Snitch (Elasticity), Potions Class (polymer chemistry), Pumpkin Volcanos (Chemical Reaction), and Pollination (Botany).  The Carnival has also brought back the hugely popular “Haunted Hallway” for a little scarier experience.

Activity tickets are available at the door: $10 for 20 tickets and $20 for 50 tickets.  Most activities are only 2-3 tickets.  Lunch will be available for purchase from BB’s Pizza.

The Rochester Public School Foundation is an independent, nonprofit foundation that connects the community and our schools to advance and inspire educational opportunities for all students.  More information on the foundation can be found at www.rpsf.org.
