BACK TO SCHOOL WEEK

STAFF DEVELOPMENT

AUGUST 28 - SEPTEMBER 1

WHO:
Required for All Certified Staff; Optional for Paraprofessionals

WHAT:
During BTS week, there will be two teacher workdays, one site planned Professional Development (PD) day, and two district PD days. The two district PD days will be Tuesday, August 29th and Wednesday, August 30th.

During the district PD days, REA staff, paraprofessionals, MHPs, early childhood, and ABE staff will have their choice of learning sessions that will be taught by district staff or external presenters. All district staff will receive professional development at different times during the 2017-2018 school year.

Based on job assignments, some staff will be required to attend a certain PD session. For example, math training will be required for all teachers of mathematics. If you are required to attend a specific PD session, you will automatically be registered for the course in PDExpress. You will receive an email indicating that you have been registered for those classes so you can plan accordingly. Other sessions will be self-selected based on staff choice. This guide features elective courses for all REA members, paraprofessionals, MHPs, early childhood, and ABE staff.

Certified staff are required to attend both August 29th and 30th. Paraprofessionals are invited to select one day full or two half-day sessions.

Reminder to RPS Families: Immunizations or Documentation for Exclusion Must Be Received by First Day of School

Rochester, MN – July 10, 2017 - More than 17,500 Rochester Public School (RPS) students will soon be thinking about back-to-school preparation, including shopping for school supplies and scheduling meet-the-teacher dates. RPS is reminding families of an essential step in the back-to-school process: providing their child’s immunization records to the RPS Department of Registration and Records.  Students will not be allowed to attend the first day of school if immunization records are not in compliance with the state law. To qualify for an exemption, students must have a notarized objection or signed physician’s statement. This is in accordance with Minnesota Statutes, Section 121.15,

RPS is utilizing Skyward (email notification system) and postal mail to inform families which vaccinations their child will need before attending school. RPS is communicating only with families that have not submitted immunization records to the Office of Registration and Records.

Important Dates to Know:

  • The first day of classes for 1st through 12th grade will begin on Tuesday, September 5, 2017.
  • Kindergarten students will begin their school year on Thursday, September 7, 2017.
  • Students will not be allowed to start school on the first day of school if they do not have their immunizations or the proper documentation for exclusion.
  • For students who will have moved to Rochester from another district, they have 30 days to submit their records. If their records are not submitted by October 5th, they will be excluded from school.

To Schedule Immunization Appointments:
